Caribbean Book Talk Series

About

The Digital Library of the Caribbean Outreach Hub at Florida International University is pleased to announce the dLOC Caribbean Studies Book Talk Series, generously funded by Florida Humanities Council and sponsored by a variety of FIU and community-based partners. This series will take place from 2024-25, and feature four authors of recently released books in the field of Caribbean Studies giving public-facing lectures. Two authors will present at the Little Haiti Cultural Center in Miami (Chelsea Schields, author of Offshore Attachments: Oil and Intimacy in the Caribbean and Marlene Daut, author of Awakening the Ashes: An Intellectual History of the Haitian Revolution), while two others will present at the African American Research Library and Cultural Center-Broward County Library in Ft. Lauderdale (Danielle Boaz, author of Voodoo: The History of a Racial Slur and Oneka LaBennett, author of Global Guyana: Shaping Race, Gender, and Environment in the Caribbean and Beyond). We will also feature one author virtually (Maria Cristina García, author of State of Disaster: The Failure of U.S. Migration Policy in an Age of Climate Change). The books will be made available through the Miami-Dade and Broward County Public Library systems, as well as Florida International University Libraries. The talks will also be recorded and be made available through the Digital Library of the Caribbean and the New Books Network. We look forward to having you join us for this informative series!
